So the whole Ed-McMahon-never-worked-for-Publishers-Clearing-House thing has legit bugged me ever since I heard about it. I've literally lost sleep wondering what in the simulation hypothesis was going on, because I clearly remember that he used to deliver those big ass checks to people's houses with the PCH Prize Patrol.

Note that Publisher's Clearing House barely did anything to dissuade these rumors. I do remember thinking this when I was a kid, but it changed when I was looking through my stepmom's mother's mail (she always had these things, and all kinds of mail with stamps and craziness all over it), and she had both publisher "you could be a winner" mails.

Alright I found the episode. It was called Screamers. And I stand corrected about the gigantic check saying Publishers Clearing House on it. Or maybe it did but this video is too low res to show it. But anyway here it is, and at the very least we can add it to the list of times when pop culture referenced Ed handing out large checks.
